What is a GPCo?

A GPCo is a General Practitioner Provider Company set up between local GPs from the Basingstoke area and Assura to provide services from within the community. 

GPCos are a 50:50 joint venture partnership and each GPCo is led by a Clinical Management Board comprising of local GPs, a Business Director and one representative from Assura.

GPs are not paid to refer patients into services run by the GPCo. In line with Department of Health policy, patients are given a choice of at least four providers at the point of referral and should they choose to be referred into a service run by the GPCo, the referrer must declare that they have a commercial interest in the GPCo.
